New Delhi:: Prime Minister's Special Envoy on Climate Change called detailed research in India on the impact of global warming in the country.More research has been advised against the backdrop of an IPCC
report making a wrong conclusion about Himalayan glaciers
melting, "It is clear that climate is changing. Now we need precise
information on the subject," he said.
"We have evidence that climate change in happening but we need more information. More research should be done so that we have precise information about global warming," said Saran while speaking at a seminar on Impacts of Climate Change on Society.
Saran also lend support to IPCC chairman R.K. Pachauri saying one mistake doesn't mean that the whole report can be discarded.
"He (Pachauri) has played a very important role in raising awareness about climate change in India. He is highly respected internationally and I think one mistake doesn't mean that he should have to step down from his post," Saran said.
Pachauri has been facing criticism over a blunder in the IPCC's fourth assessment report that said Himalyan glaciers would disappear by 2035, a statement that had not been reviewed by peers as per norms.
